[TYPO3] Installation doesn't work

Hello all! I've copied all the files of the "quickstart" package inside the 
classical /var/www/html directory of my Fedore (Core 1) PC. When i browse 
into the typo3 folder, this message appears instead of the installation 
procedure:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mysql_pconnect() in 
/var/www/html/typo3/t3lib/class.t3lib_db.php on line 831

Any Idea of what I missed? Mysql is installed!!
