[TYPO3] How to request: Hide headers when no content for content elements

Can somebody enlighten me on how to hide content element headers when  
there's no content for that element?

Purpose: To not show news plugin headers when there's no news.

Alternative: Put news heading into news template and then add check  
to return a blank string if no results.
