I believe that propblem lies on

It seems that there was no way they could put the alpha channel support 
inside explorer, so in order to support it they make you call an 
external DirectX filter wich is the one that finally shows the image.

Maybe IE doesn't have properly - or not at all - DirectX installed,
when processing of course fails.
