[TYPO3] Verifying a user specified URL

Hello,

I want to know if there is some way to verify a URL (website link) user 
specifies in a form field. I have searched a lot, found some third party 
Perl/CGI stuff to do that. Is their some facility or extension which can 
help us do this in Typo3? If not, then any suggestions on how to use the 
Perl/CGI stuff available.
