[TYPO3] XML declaration in header

Hi all,

when I make Typo3 convert my pages to XHTML it puts this line i nthe header.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?>

...which throws IE into bug mode and makes my layout go funky. Where can 
I remove this? it is a bit annoying I can't edit the header info on my 
pages, or at least i don't know ehere. I'd like to be in control of 
this... I thought i found it in template.php but that wasn't it.
