[TYPO3] Every possible way to configure single news

Hi,

I am trying to find out why my news lists/latest are point to the wrong 
single news page when they are supposed to be following what I have 
entered in their category/subcategory.

So what are all the possible ways you can configure Single news so maybe 
I can find out where I might have something wrong, or have done 
something wrong.  Or maybe someone can explain to me if there are any 
special requirements to use the single uid in the category configuration 
for each category.
