[TYPO3] error 404

i am trying to install quickstart 3.81 on apache xammp-win32-1.5.2-beta1
i am following the downloadable pdf quickstart file from typo3.org, i am 
having problems at the 1st hurdle
1.) when i install apache xammp i type local host in my browser and my check 
status,
my xammp status is as follows

MySQL database ACTIVATED

PHP ACTIVATED


HTTPS (SSL) ACTIVATED


Common Gateway Interface (CGI) ACTIVATED


Server Side Includes (SSI) ACTIVATED


SMTP Service DEACTIVATED


FTP Service

when i unzip typo to C:\xampp\htdocs, i then proceed as the pdf tutorial 
says and  go to my browser and type localhost/quickstart,

i next arrive at this error

Error 404
