[TYPO3] Access TCA in FE extention

Hello,
I am trying to implement the idea in this post:

which allows for multiple view type in Templavoila.

What I am having trouble with is accessin teh TCA in the php class.
Does anyone know how - I have tried loading it with 
t3lib_div::loadTCA('tx_templavoila_tmplobj'); like I do in the 
ext_tables.php when I modify other exts TCA's but no luck..
