[TYPO3] which media player?

Hi,

Typo3 V4.0.2.

We have an .avi file that can be played fine in windows media player out
side of typo3.  Then I created a page, selected multimedia as content type
and inserted that avi file, but the page doesn't do anything, that is the
avi file is not played.  Do I need to install some player extension?  If
so, which one can play most types of media that can be played by windows
media player?
