[TYPO3] cObj->fileResource undefined method

Hi,
 
Working on some cross extension solution I've come across this funny
thing:
Call to undefined method stdClass::fileResource() ...
 
I've testet cObj and it is instantiated and the path to the file is also
correct but cObj for the "child_class" doesn't seem to have the
function/method fileResource I can use $this->cObj to alot of other
stuff but not fileResource.
