[TYPO3] 2 columns in 4.0.x

Hi Logi. Why don't you just create a couple FCE elements in 2 and 3 columns?
Take a look at the "Futuristic Template Building" manual..

I've been trying to install the fdfx_2cols extension (and will need the
"sister" extension fdfx_3cols as well) in typo3 4.0.2. The extension
will not install. I'm getting the following message:

fopen(/*site path*/typo3conf/ext/fdfx_2cols/): failed to open stream: Is
a directory in /*path to typo3 4.0.2*/t3lib/class.t3lib_div.php on line
2412

I can see from the TER on typo3.org that the extension depends on T3 v.
3.6.4 and therefore this message might be expected.

Does anyone have an idea of how to implement 2 and 3 column content
without explicitly making separate TV templates for each layout? Or am I
just doomed?
