[TYPO3] eu_ldap extension

Hi everyone,
I've installed the eu_ldap extension and successfully connect to my ldap
server and see a list of users show up in the sysfolder.
However, I am only able to authenticate FE users that were created
manually through typo3 and none of the ldap users seem to have a valid
password.
Since LDAP passwords are not retrievable it seems to try anyway and
displays a garbled string for the ldap users' passwords.
Does anyone know how to resolve this?
