You must give read permision to "others" to typo3conf too , and 777 to
localconf.php. Remember that the folder is read by the apache user.

Try as Root : chmod 777 /var/www/XXXXXXX/typoconf/localconf.php   
and chmod -R 755 /var/www/XXXXXXX/typo3conf

You problem is only about permisions.
