[Typo3] ctype_digit

hello!

using debian sarge.
TYPO3_VERSION: 3.8.0
PHP_VERSION  : 4.3.10-16

using a form i get:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: ctype_digit() in 
typo3_src-3.8.0/typo3/sysext/cms/tslib/class.tslib_content.php on line 
1577

looks like ctype is not compiled into php under debian. any hints?
