[Typo3] Very strange BE interface confusion

Hi all. I hope this will sound sane... I am trying to insert 
mailformplus into the right content column. Now when I do a left click 
on a page icon in the page tree and click on new and then on 
mailformplus I can insert mailformplus and set all the configuration 
fields (such as path to the html template) but I cannot tell typo to put 
the content element into the right column on my page.
Now, if I go the other way, and try to go to the page in the page tree 
and insert a new plugin into the right column I cannot set the path to 
the html template??? Any idea...
