I don't think that 'made in the usa' is an issue either.
(and as an aside, the attention that ruby on rails has been getting has
struck me too. In more cynical moments I think, 'hmm, O'Reilly figures
they have a real money-maker here'.)
As for penetration of typo3 into N American cyberspace, what to say?
Some of the reasons that I was speculating about myself, learning curve
for example, apply equally across the pond, so you can't pin it on that.
The wealth of documentation is great, but to begin with I was frustrated
quite often with my inability to quickly nail down topics; the info
seemed to be diffused through the material in a way that I still haven't
quite cleared up. Now I know where I can find the goodies on certain
items, so that's better. I've read, in my searches, others making the
same comments, so I've not been alone in this experience.
fwiw, the research method that's providing best results right now, for
me, is full searches of the english newsgroup; resulting keywords are
then plugged into the search box on typo3.org for expansion with 'the
fine manual'.
How about cultural differences, as reflected throughout the project,
being a damper on the N.A. appetite? Kind of a vague statement; broad
and sweeping, but it has occurred to me that this was a factor.
Much to speculate about, but I've got to be getting working here.
cheers from Canada!
