[Typo3] mysql connection failed

Diedrik,

- on mysql 4.1 you need to run mysql with the option : --old-passwords, 
this is because mysql changed they way passwords are given from client 
to server.
But I would install phpmyadmin, and see if you get a connection from 
there, then create users/password on the DB for typo3.

- Check if the mysql server runs on the appropriate port

- Check for firewalls
