[Typo3] gif tumbnail not rendered

I'm currently using Typo3 without ImageMagick installed.  One of the things 
I've noticed is no thumbnails are generated.  Also, image resizing and click 
to expand options don't work.  Take a look at the Typo3 setup (click the 
Install menu item while in the typo3 backend or goto 
.../typo3/install/index.php).  On the Basic Configuration page there's a 
"Check Image Magick" section.  It will look for ImageMagick but you can also 
specify a location if it can't find it.  If your on a shared server like me 
your host will be able to tell you if it's installed on your server and the 
path.  I'm trying to find out if I can install it myself in a shared server 
environment.
