[Typo3] Use of SelectPro extension for external databases?

Hi,

I've just started using the excellent SelectPro extension to generate SQL
queries with the results displaying neatly back on the web. My interest,
though is more for use with an external database ( in this case an
inventory of unix and nt servers). Is it possible to use this extension
without tweaking the code to refer to connection strings, database names
etc in order to do this
