[Typo3] p tags bothering me

In my regular text content elements when I make a line break (shift+enter) I 
still get a new set of p tags... How come? Can I change this behavior so 
they only show up when making hard line breaks (enter)?

I also noted that I have quite some distance between the p tag sections when 
viewing the content online. I tried to set the padding value to zero for: 
p.bodytext in my own css file, but that didn't help. Is this setting hidden 
somewhere else?
