[Typo3] RTE does not work

Thanks all who responded.  Relating to RTE, how do people using typo3 
commonly entering contents?  Do they create, edit and maintain contents 
(html, PHP scripts, etc.) outside of typo3 or they use RTE or other 
editors extensions?
