[Typo3] Set numRows result in REGISTER

Hi all,

i want to set the numRows result into a Register. I need it in order to put a Condition. Does someone has an example ? For now i have this ts and i dont know how to continue:
14 = TEXT
14 {
   numRows {
     table = pages
     select {
         pidInList = this
     }
  }   
 }
