[Typo3] Sys_log and sys_history

Hi everybody!

I see that the sys_log and sys_history are quite big on my site.
Is there any problem emptying them (some or all records)?
Any side effect?

Of course, for sys_history, I mean I have all pages ok, and don't want to
resume any operation (written content is not evolving and I'm the only
editor).

If it can be done, is there any "clean" way to do it?
(instead of DELETE or TRUNCATE)
An extension perhaps?
