[Typo3] parent pid of pid in pi (extension

Hi all,


I am looking fopr a way to get the pid of the parent page of a given pid.
So say I have the pid 56 which is a subpage of the page with pid 48. Is 
there a way (a funtion perhaps) to get this pid 48 when I know the 56?

Can somebody give me a hint?
