That's definitely the way to go, but I don't have a definitive list of 
"obnoxious" tags. Here are some of the things I found and sometimes 
use:

#
# Don't add anchor tags before every item
#
tt_content.stdWrap.dataWrap =
#
# Don't add rendering comments around each item
#
tt_content.stdWrap.prefixComment =
tt_content.text.20.prefixComment =

Hope this helps point you in the right direction. I would be interested 
in what you find too.
