[Typo3] TCA (type group width) - cut text

Hi Folks,

I have a MM field with several records/texts which are long and similar 
in the beginning. So I changed my TCA to show the MM field wider (500px) 
which works but the text shown in the field is still cut off e.g. "This 
is a long text w..." with the three dots at the end.
How can I change the length of the shown record/text?
I have the same problem when I browse for the records (the neat button 
beside the MM field). The records are shown but their names are cut off 
in the same manner.

Any help is very appreciated,
