[Typo3] Template: TU, no text in menu

Hi Folks,

conf: 4.3.9; gd, exif, mdsring enabled
template analyzer: content(default), TU

I just started work off the Typo3 book and tried to add a Standard Template
to a site using the TU template and made changes in the constants/self made
menulist in gif's/, but I can't see any text on the menu /left/, what did I
wrong?

Also on the standard template i couldn't see any text related to my site,
page and subpages exists

I also tested the image install settings, and the freetype support is active
in php.
