[Typo3] How to add plugin.alt.pda (95) to standard MTB template

My goal is to add allow an alternative view of a Typo3 3.7 site to 
those who have handhelds. Some handheld seem not to pay attention 
to my CSS directive, so having an alternative seems right. I think 
that use plugin.alt.pda could be useful, but am not sure how to 
begin. Somehow, I must get the default information defined by 
plugin.alt.pda to my template. I have a typical autoparser setup. 
I've got to get type information to my template, right? How?
