[Typo3] Install problem

Hi,

When installing (Web host), Typo3 couldn't see the database.
To overcome this problem, I wrote directly
$typo_db = 'mybase';
into typo3conf/localconf.php

It seems to work, but should I modify other files or lines in the database ?
