Hello,
That sounds like a good initiative to me (though I am not a core dev). May
I suggest you to also support
GraphicsMagick<http://www.graphicsmagick.org/>as well ? It seems to
have a very
similar API <http://php.net/manual/en/book.gmagick.php> to ImageMagick and
is already officially supported in
TYPO3<http://wiki.typo3.org/GraphicsMagick> via
process execution. That would be neat to have support for both :)
