I can't remember any discussion about this, as probably nobody was eager
enough to start/finish this task.

Of course, it would be great, if you start such a task. I have no clue,
how hard it would be, to support all the current features (which,
however, would be a requirement).
I guess Jigal will also comment in this thread, as he's our image expert
:) He planned some restructurings to be more flexible.. this would
probably also help you. However, I don't know, what his current plan is.
