[TYPO3-dev] using locallang in FE utput...or something different instead?

Hi,

I'm working on a small ext that allows to hook into other extensions 
that deal with dates (esp. cal - calendar base).
The goal is to provide a new marker, where a small text can be shown, 
such as public holiday names, special anniversary names, or the 
christian descriptions of sundays.

The first idea was to use a locallang.xml file - all the functions are 
available, the date (in yyyymmdd format) could serve as key, there are 
good tools to translate everything for multilanguage pages, good caching 
is available...

On the other hand - LLL handling is designed to be used BE mode (but 
some extensions already use it in FE), so maybe a more simple format 
could be used, generic xml handling is available as well.

What would you recommend to use?
