Hi,

Since my name was mentioned, I feel compelled to reply :-)
What I mostly miss from the Core list is the opportunity to do some
"casual" reviewing, something like quickly reading a patch and giving a
+1 by reading. Of course this was not very strict and maybe it's better
that it's harder to do now. And although I have set up my Gerrit options
so that I receive mails from it, I still find it easier to "forget"
about patches than before.
That being said, it's also related to the fact that I am extremely busy
at the moment and dedicate my "TYPO3 time" mostly to documentation, so
I'm a bit distant from Core development these days. This also doesn't
help feeling at ease with Git, as I don't work enough with. I definitely
think to it's superior to SVN and allows us to work in ways which we
couldn't before (or at least with less hassle), bit I also think that it
takes longer getting used to than SVN.
Still I don't think that Git itself is the issue. Nor is Gerrit, even
though I find its user interface really unpleasant. As Christian
mentioned, long discussions in the Core list could also kill a patch.
One big problem is certainly getting used to all these changes. Although
human beings are extremely adaptable (more than they think), they are
pretty resistant to change. It's probably unavoidable that we will lose
some contributors due to the recent changes. We will also gain new ones.
We'll have to see over time how this evolves.
As we're gradually drifting away from the original topic, I would also
say that one reason why I'm not very active in Core development these
days is because I'm still "digesting" the release of 4.5 It was a very
important release and the fact that it has long-term support has
definitely raised our clients' interest in upgrading (which was rather
low otherwise). So there are a lot of sites to migrate and a lot of
extension to update (I'm finding it a good opportunity to also release
major versions of some of my extensions). TBH my mind is very far away
from 4.6. I hope it's just me ;-)
Cheers
