That can only mean that the files for storing the message information 
have become corrupted. In the mozilla knowledge base are some articles 
on how to fix this.

Luckily not everything is stored in a single file like it was in the 
days of Outlook98 ;-) Had to run that blasted "Inbox Repair Tool" a few 
times a year losing e-mails in the process :-(
