[TYPO3-dev] Using/implementing ExtJS widgets for backend TCE form fields

Good evening,

has anybody tried implementing ExtJS widgets, as replacement
for the default TCE form elements in the backend?

I'm asking, because I'd need a scalable solution for displaying
and selecting child and parent categories for a record. Imho
the existing solutions out there, implemented in cal or commerce,
are not that flexible and/or useable with a huge category tree.

Would it be easy to implement ExtJS widgets or are there maybe
any other efficient solutions for alternative backend form fields?
