Philippe,

me as a PG fan would love to see native PG only support in TUPO3,
but in reality 'we' (the community) also depends on what any ISP
is willing to support and what is easy for a ISP to install on a large
user base.
MySQL is in that respect a bit easer (but not much) then PostgreSQL.

Since TYPO3 is community driven, 'we' (the community) needs to suport
whatever the large userbase want's to see. If that's something that
looks like
MySQL (Maria) or IS mysql (in whatever form) then that support is best
for the
project overall. Xavier is working extremely hard (kuddos to Xavier)
to get proper
PostgreSQL/Oracle support using DBAL, and this works out very well, this
will potentially easy transitions for the people that need it.

I don't have any inside knowledge, since you do... and you bring it out,
what do you know we don't?
