It's been done in the past in many projects. During the development of
Quake (the 3D game, yes) Michael Abrash found time to write articles in
Dr. Dobb's Journal about their progress each month.
He published detailed information about the tests, the algorithms and
even code examples. It couldn't have been for the money they received
for such an article and it wasn't about showing a large audience about
the game they were going to release. But even among programmers people
were getting eager to see the end result.
They also showed the process of making a solution, testing it and
rejecting it because it didn't meet their goals. They used all the "new"
development techniques of today without using all the buzzwords. Oh by
the way, they also had a deadline to publish the finished game.
