Hi together

Wow a very long thread - even if i did not manage to read all I want to
give my 2 cents on it.

On the one hand I can totaly understand the uncertainty related to this
TYPO3 5.0 project. Because without having a closer look all you know is
that for over 3,5 years great guys building a new framework for TYPO3 5
- but still there is no visible new CMS.... I mean after 3 years we
should have been able to have the next generation CMS system - should we?

But after a closer look I am totaly confindent that we are on the right
track and even that there was no real alternative:

**TYPO3 4.x?**
I think if everybody is honest you will agree that TYPO3 4 is a big
nearly feature complete CMS - elephant - but with a big danger to change
things in the elephant or add new features. We always have the big risk
to hurt him or the people riding on them. Imho its for example not
really acceptable that for years nobody improves workspace or TCEmain
Core implementations.... Or look at the pibase extension API: it is good
for micky mouse applications but not for building maintainable business
applications, that are still a fun for developers to code. Look at the
very diffrent ways extensions are implemented - look at a blog extension
with 2300 lines typoscript or a 3396 lines tt_news monster or a 2000
lines realurl monster. That all works but still its kind of "yesterday"
- its not for the future.

Without beeing able to move its just a question of time when another CMS
overtake TYPO3 4.x (they are currently on the way...)

Looking 4 years back there where theoretically two ways of handling
this: a) refactoring TYPO3 4 Codebasis  b) start new -> explorer and
learn stuff-> work -> get a true innovation

The decision was for b) - without going into detail of course involved
with a lot of potential risk but with the bigger chances and advantages.
And I think we are closely at meeting the advantages (see below)!

**Look what we achieved allready**
- Our innovation and explorer team around TYPO3 5 constantly brought
modern pardigms and patterns into the TYPO3 community =>

That helped a lot people to look over the plate: get inspirations /
learn new stuff /get a new feeling for code-quality / build better
applications... (if thats not yet the case for you - take the
opportunity :-))

- There are a lot of achievments in the TYPO3 4 that go back to the work
in TYPO3 5.0 team

- There is now a modern PHP framework "FLOW3" with a innovative
featureset - that makes it unique compared to other frameworks. Its
build as a solid base for building next the generation CMS as well as
diffrent kind of Webapplication
( you will see that it sticks to its promise! )

- There is a growing TYPO3 5 team with a very skilled and motivated people!

**Look where we go**
- 4 weeks back there was the kickstart to have a collaborative focus on
building the next generation CMS: TYPO3 5.
(see http://news.typo3.org/news/article/scrumify-phoenix/ )

What is better than from now one having visible results every 4 weeks?
Showing every 4 weeks how TYPO3 5.0 is able to manage and build
websites? The way we are planning to go forward has so much potential
and is unique for open source products. That especially is the case for
the quality demand on all levels (e.g. see kickstartet definition of
done http://forge.typo3.org/wiki/typo3v5-core/Definition_of_Done )

Thanks to all involved into TYPO3 5 - spending theire time, motivation
and knowledge: the results are allready great and the target is in focus.

Most of the discussion here was realy open - and I think its important
that all feedback is open and constructive - and that it should look
foward - we truly have so big chances in front of us. Fingerpointing
back never helps.

Greetings

Daniel Pötzinger
