It is ok to have white background when it is not too contrast with other colors :) For example, MS Office never tried to use bright backgrounds: even their blue colors are not too contrast to white. XP olive skin could be much broighter but it is very soft.

No, because green+orange+white will make less contrast. More colors but less contrast.

He has very good ideas for skin/BE look. And color scheme there is really attracting. Yours is close, so you need just tune it a little :)
