I guess I'm blind or simply ignorant having overlooked this option in 
the install tool. Thanks for pointing this out for me. I had the feeling 
  that someone already had thought of using curl.

Suggestion: The Install Tool could be able to figure out if url_fopen is 
disabled and curl is supported. Would be nice if this was selectable for 
example under "basic configuration", with a reasonable automatic 
setting. What do you think?
