[Typo3-dev] Status of DBAL

Sorry if this has been asked before but I didn't find additional 
information...

Can I help by writing the MSSQL Server driver for DBAL?
If yes, is there API documentation (didn't get a grip on CVS so far).

I see a HUGE benefit by getting TYPO3 running on Oracle or MSSQLS 
because I'd like to run the Profiler for some time and then take a look 
where to improve things which micht affect overall TYPO3 performance.
