[Typo3-dev] Skin Images: Howto?

Hello..
I am trying to develop a new skin, and I've found myself banging my head
against the wall a few times now, as I am no prgrammer..
Question is: Is it not possible to skin images within modules or ext. e.g
swap the "install.gif" and "uninstall.gif" images within the ext. manager so
that they fit my design??
I've read the skinning API quite a few times now, and I just don't see the
light :-(
