I still hope for a "beta" or "developer" release which is fairly stable 
(but not finished or polished) where DBAL has landed.

I still have a bad feeling with adding DBAL without any beta release. 
The RCs are so short lived that not many developers or users find the 
time for a short test install let alone real testing.
