You brought me a great idea again ....

If you use UNIX (which is most probably if you have the gimp) I could 
start the gimp using the pctl functions if they are available and
could in such a was pipe data into the gimp to let it execute.

the gimp always runs ... whenever it has to perform a manipulation it 
gets data sent .... that should work.
