As long as I don't know how bad GD/GM will perform, I assume it will be a
good solution. Therefore (I know I'm repeating myself) I do not want to
spend any time on such an API because it needs much more work and I cannot
yet see a gain of this.

But _if_ somebody else (you?!) will start an API I would offer to write the
GD/GM backend.

There will be support but somebody else will have to make it! See above. But
_if_ you think it is the perfect solution then go ahead!
