Hi,
Unless that application has very distinctive separation between logic
and presentation, yes, you'll have to, at the very least, do some
fitting of it each time a new version is out.
Anyway, you'd want to include the applications new features in your
extension. The question is how easy it will be.
Take a look at lz_phpbb. It is a typo3 extension of the popular phpBB
software. It works pretty well, even though phpBB really doesn't lend it
self to be integrated very well.
