TYPO3 can contain many websites
Each website can have their own "database" of frontend users.
The same frontend *username* is allowed multiple times in the table BUT only as long as PIDs are different.
This feature cannot be ported to backend users!
This is Mathias and Michaels points. Actually it wasnøt like that from
the start. In the beginning people had to accept that another site in
TYPO3 might already have taken the username they wanted. But we changed
it *and that was possible because of the fe_users/be_users separation!*
The fact that this feature was requested many years back contrary to
your suggestions seems to suggest that the dual-table design is better
and proved itself the best solution.
