I just send an email to HostEurope and got a reply that the will run 
PHP5 in the PHP4 compatibility mode first. And they will test how Typo3 
behaves in such an environment with their settings. So at least they are 
listening and they are doing something.

Here's the text of the answer:

"PHP 5 wird bei uns zunächst im PHP 4 Kompatibilitätsmodus betrieben 
werden. Wir werden uns vorher noch anschauen, wie sich Typo3 in dieser 
Umgebung (mit unseren Einstellungen - die wir noch rechtzeitig bekannt 
geben werden) verhält, und dann ggfs. weitere Maßnahmen ergreifen."

So let's hope it will work out.
