Same for me. I was really willing to try out something else, but I have 
just not found anything competitive yet.

There is this sheet with fundamental keys, which should be enough for 
almost everyone. It DOES take same time to configure XEmacs, if you do 
not want to stick with the already available settings for 
highlighting/indentation etc.

Usually I have a Explorer-Window open which I use to navigate 
directories and then just drag&drop the file into XEmacs. But still, 
using C-x f to open a file directly from Xemacs is very fast, thanks to 
tab-completion, too.
The ugly and completely unnecessary buttons were the first thing I 
disabled totally... what are they good for?

My Xemacs has nothing to facelift anymore, just menu-bar and text-area. 
I am perfectly happy with that!
