[Typo3-dev] BE question: show individual layout options depending on CType

hi all,
i'm new to this list and don't have much experience with typo3 yet, so i 
apologize for starting this thread if the answer to my question is too 
obvious:

i wonder if it's possible to change the options displayed in the layout 
select field in the backend. instead of letting the editors choose 
between "normal" and "layout 1..3", i'd like to display more clear 
options, eg. "ordered list" and "unordered list" for bullet lists.

i would like to configure these values individually for each CType, but 
the option the editor selects may still be stored in tt_content.layout. 
it's only about changing the options displayed, not the value stored in 
the database.
